A comprehensive look at the final auction prices, closeouts and more from the auction list posted on March 30, 2017.

If there is an asterisk (*) next to a price, it means that the name was at auction from a private seller (rather than an expiring name) and may have had a reserve. I’m only showing where the price was when the auction ended, but the name may not have sold if a reserve was in place.

$444

111.asia Has the dot asia train left the station?

I rarely have final prices for the Namejet names on the list, because they usually do not end the same day as they are posted to the list. For now, instead of posting the list with no prices, I’ll post the top 10 Namejet sales for yesterday as listed on Namebio.

Yesterday someone who reads the blog wrote to me and had some very nice things to say. It means a lot when someone takes up their time to write . He said something that really stuck with me. He said “my startup is my kid”. A truer statement was never said. Like a startup, you sacrifice your time, spend a lot of money, and hope that your investment will pay off later. There are a lot of people that have to make a choice between a startup and children. It is not by coincidence that I didn’t blog or have children when I first started building my business. If you are putting in the effort you need there is no time for anything else. You would be a terrible parent (and are most likely a selfish husband) if you are at work 100 hours a week trying to build your vision. That’s what it takes. If someone is blogging or going to their kids games I always assume the business is a little more mature and financially stable. Certainly not a startup. There is …read more

Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with data courtesy of NameBio.

Flips

9.am sold for 169,000 USD recently at RegNest.com, vs 18,000 USD on 2016-06-15 at RegNest.com. Wowza, a $150k gain before any commission…..a 9x return. The .am extension is for Armenia, of course. New owner under privacy, and no site resolves.

MyIV.com sold for 10,746 USD recently at Sedo, vs 175 USD on 2010-01-24 at GoDaddy. Excellent 60x return after commission. New owner under privacy, and no site resolves.

VR6.com sold for 8,988 USD recently at NameJet, vs 332 USD on 2010-07-05 at NameJet. 27x return after commission. If I call the ‘average’ non-CHIP LLN.com value at around $1,000, the virtual reality abbreviation increased the price by 9x.

Versions.io sold for 2,000 USD recently at Park.io, vs 104 USD on 2016-03-27 at Park.io. These .io domains continue to be hot.

BoxOffice.net sold for 8,100 USD recently at Flippa, vs 655 USD on 2017-03-07 at Sedo. Excellent 12x return in less than a month. Great to see an end user picking up the domain….this one forwards to the developed BoxOffice.co.uk, and a screenshot is below. “Box Office Tickets provide a secure online booking system for theatre tickets and …read more
