LONDON, November 30, 2016 /PRNewswire/ —

Research by Spamhaus has driven the development of the new Zero Reputation Domain (ZRD) service designed to thwart cyber criminals who use newly registered domains to send spam and drive traffic to harmful websites hoping that users will fall victim before a domain has been analysed for its reputation.

Legitimate organisations will rarely activate a domain and start using it immediately after registration so the ZRD automatically adds newly-registered and previously dormant domains to a blocklist for 24 hours. This protects users from clicking on links and visiting domains until it can be firmly established that they are not associated with zero day attacks, phishing, bot-herding, spyware and ransomware campaigns.

The ZRD blocklist is already proving its worth in a pilot with a UK-based email security service provider.

“After enabling the Spamhaus ZRD, I immediately saw a reduction in the amount of spam that needed expensive content scanning by around 33% as we could reject it outright.

“Normally I would get quite excited at something that reduced this by approximately 10% and the ZRD varies by day between to around 20-30% and those are unique hits which …read more

Sibername - Perfect solutions for your web presence

Internet domain name registrar SiberName is establishing a new Holiday tradition with its clients: The gift of a basic homepage. This practical gift will be offered to the first 100 clients who request it, during the first week of December only.

Sibername – Perfect solutions for your web presence

SiberName joins the tradition of holiday giving.

OTTAWA, ON (PRWEB) NOVEMBER 30, 2016

SiberName clients who register Internet domain names but who currently don’t have the “know how” to start building a website will be given one if it is requested in the first week of December. Since this is a totally new Holiday tradition at Sibername, these gifts will be offered to the first 100 customers who request one. From this experience, SiberName will then assess the possibility of offering this gift to many more customers.

Those interested can just email their SiberName-registered domain name along with the original content they wish to see on their new homepage to support(at)sibername(dot)com before December 8th. Participating domain registrants will hopefully use this basic, yet practical, homepage as a “Web Presence” starter. Sibername marketing manager Sylvain says, “Using SiberName How-To videos and the Weebly website builder, participating domain registrants will hopefully use this basic, yet practical, …read more

A comprehensive look at the final auction prices, closeouts and more from the auction list posted on November 29, 2016.

If there is an asterisk (*) next to a price, it means that the name was at auction from a private seller (rather than an expiring name) and may have had a reserve. I’m only showing where the price was when the auction ended, but the name may not have sold if a reserve was in place.

I rarely have final prices for the Namejet names on the list, because they usually do not end the same day as they are posted to the list. For now, instead of posting the list with no prices, I’ll post the top 10 Namejet sales for yesterday as listed on Namebio.

No names listed for the 29th on Namebio.

Vegas Baby – A domain bet pays off at the .tv casino">Vegas Baby – A domain bet pays off at the .tv casino

November 30th, 2016 by Patricia - DomainBELL

By Raymond Hackney

So the new NHL team in Las Vegas announced their name last Tuesday. Owner Bill Foley kept people in suspense for months, putting out disinformation and talking about other names he was never planning on using. I had a good idea what the name would be before the big reveal. Why ? Because I had just gotten an email from Sedo that I had sold a domain name. I thought about breaking the story but then I thought that it would be wrong to take the big moment away from Bill Foley and the Las Vegas team.

I was following this for months because I had been keeping track over NHL team names in .tv for awhile now.

There had been a buying spree with names like Ducks.tv selling for $15,000 and Flyers.tv selling for $10,000. I was pissed at myself as I had owned Bruins.tv for years but then let the registration slip. Legendary .tv investor Ben Van Dyk owned several hockey mascot names in .tv. They had all changed hands in private.

So I was trying to guess what the Las Vegas team there was a lot of talk about Knights being in the name. Bill Foley attended West Point …read more

Daily Domain Picks 11-30-16

Today is the last day to make changes to your whois before the new rules go into effect. It seems there are a few different interpretations. Joe Styler wrote on Namepros:

The new rules will not impact your ability to sell domains at GoDaddy or Afternic. There will be some small changes in the terms of service to allow for this but rest assured the change has not caught us off guard and you will be able to sell domains after this happens.

There are a handful of 4L.com today, ACSR.com would be my favorite on the list.

GemPros.com not a bad brand name for someone in that field.

J2.org public auction, one bid so far at $500.

I’ll open today’s post with a story. A friend of mine was going through a very tough time. He is a
good friend to a lot of people and everyone one wanted to do something to help. Nobody knew what to do and many said
“If there is anything I can do to help just let me know” As expected, this person was struggling as it was, and the fact
that others wanted him to tell them what to do bothered him. He didn’t want to hurt their feelings but his thoughts were
“if you want to do something, just do it. Anything is a kind gesture. Don’t ask me to ask for help, do something you think would be nice and I guarantee we will be grateful” Of course he didn’t say it in those exact words but it was something to that effect. For the first time I saw the other side. I knew from that moment that we shouldn’t ask others what I could do to help . People don’t like to ask for help. But they are always grateful if they are given it. Now I just do something. …read more

Namepros revises rules for business members">Namepros revises rules for business members

November 29th, 2016 by Patricia - DomainBELL

By Raymond Hackney

Namepros has revised their rules for business members. One of the key features to paying $10 a month is the number of active listings allowed in the marketplace.

In the seller’s guide to Namepros, I highlighted the fact that the rules were for 6 active listings but Namepros was allowing 10.

Today Eric Lyon updated the rules, you now have only 6 listings but you can bump once every 12 hours.

Eric posted:

Updates:

  • Bumping of marketplace listings is now allowed every 12 hours.
  • Business Accounts may have 6 active listings open at a time. For those with 10 active listings prior to this change, your extra listings will be allowed to remain open until you close them.

Hope that helps,
