So over the last couple weeks GoDaddy has reaped the rewards of one ladies’ efforts. An avalanche of blockchain related domains sold at auction that had expired. The registrant was certainly a forward thinker who was earlier than most to the blockchain game. Jane Angela Maginsky Pantalone Both passed away sadly in March of 2017. […]

New gTLD revenue cut by HALF in ICANN budget">New gTLD revenue cut by HALF in ICANN budget

January 22nd, 2018 by Patricia - DomainBELL

By Kevin Murphy The new gTLD industry is performing terribly when compared to ICANN’s predictions just six months ago. ICANN budget documents published over the weekend show that by one measure new gTLDs are doing just 51% of the business ICANN thought they would. The new budget (pdf) shows that for the fiscal year 2018, which ends June […]

ICANN slashes millions from its budget">ICANN slashes millions from its budget

January 22nd, 2018 by Patricia - DomainBELL

By Kevin Murphy ICANN has cut $5 million from its annual budget, warning the community that difficult decisions have to be made amid a slowing domain name market. Staff and community members will all be affected by the cuts, whether in the form of less generous pay raises or fewer travel opportunities. Cuts have also been proposed to […]

January 22nd, 2018 by Patricia - DomainBELL

By Kevin Murphy Apparent domain name homograph attacks against major brands are a “significant” problem, according to research from Farsight Security. The company said last week that it scanned for such attacks against 125 well-known brands over the three months to January 10 and found 116,113 domains — almost 1,000 per brand. Homographs are domains that look like […]

Well the AFC championship game was exciting, but the NFC championship game was about as boring as it gets – unless you love the Eagles I guess. I’m always amazed when you get down to the final two teams in a divisional playoff, and it is a blowout. Any given Sunday indeed… At least it gave me plenty of time to put the list together without the distraction of caring about the game.

I will be happy when Brady and Belichick retire though. Granted, they have created a dynasty that will be hard to ever match, but I’m tired of watching the Patriots play for the AFC championship and the Super Bowl. It’s like watching Alabama play for the national championship. Who wants to watch that replay every year unless you are a Bama fan? It gets old. I can say this, because Shane is on the other side of the planet :)

I hope you find a hidden gem in the list. Click on a name and buy it if you do!

Domain Flips (Calculating.com, HardBoiled.com) and Flops (BusinessFriendly.com, EWAP.com)">Domain Flips (Calculating.com, HardBoiled.com) and Flops (BusinessFriendly.com, EWAP.com)

January 21st, 2018 by Patricia - DomainBELL

Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with data courtesy of NameBio.

Flips

Calculating.com sold recently for $7,000 at Flippa, vs $5,000 in October 2017 at Flippa. The domain also sold for $1,735 in May 2017 at NameJet. Two profitable, quick flips, although the margin is a lot thinner for the most recent sale.

PY.net sold recently for $27,000 at NameJet, vs $14,804 in July 2017 on the same platform. A big 80% gain before commission in a 6 month timeframe on the same platform. The current owner is Hu Weisheng, which I believe is bidder ‘first’ at NameJet.

HardBoiled.com sold yesterday for $2,551 at GoDaddy, vs $1,456 in January last year at the same place. A 75% gain before commission in a year.

StockMarketGuide.com sold recently for $661 at NameJet, vs $101 in January 2017 at the same place, for a 550% gain before commission. Frank Schilling’s firm picked up this three word domain.

BitcoinMiners.com sold recently for $5,500 at Sedo, vs $3,500 in August 2017 at Sedo. It’s not an astronomical gain for the hot crypto domains, but a little over $1k after commission is better than a stick in the eye. It appears the …read more

Escrow.com

Is it an anomaly for me, or is January starting off well for you guys too? I’ve had four sales so far with one of them being my first sale at BrandBucket. I’m not like Josh with 1,000+ names listed there. I only have 38 so I figured it would take a while to sell one of them, and it has. But I also knew it would only take one sale for me to be profitable with my activities there. I’m pretty sure that the profit on that one sale covers the cost of all of the domains I have listed there, the renewals so far and the listing fees and credits purchased.

Shane mentioned something about buying a SIM card as soon as he arrived in Africa so that he had some kind of access to the Internet. No word yet, but I assume he is already having a great adventure. What a cool trip to be able to take. I’m sure he will have several new stories to tell when he returns.

Limata

The screenshots below are examples of buyers of domains from the past few months that have either developed their sites, or purchased an upgrade domain and have redirected their acquisition to an existing website.

Limata.com sold for $7,735 at Sedo, and the domain was an upgrade from Limata.de for the German company. “Limata GmbH, headquartered in Munich/Ismaning (Germany), is a provider of Direct Imaging System solutions for the global PCB manufacturing industry and adjacent markets.

GetBioFuel.com sold for $7,000 at Sedo, and you won’t be surprised what this site is about. “E15 is good for our air, engines & wallets. You may not think of it often, but what you put in your car matters. Next time you fill up, switch to biofuels.” It appears they rebranded from the more specific GetEthanol.com.

GetBioFuel

SmarterClick.com sold for $6,000 at Sedo, and the domain was an upgrade from SmarterClick.co.uk for the company based in London. “Smarter Click specialise in cutting-edge remarketing services. We work with online advertisers, just like you, to reach out to more customers and win new business using a range of performance based remarketing and retargeting tools”.
